Context

In most engineering problems related to porous media, especially the consolidation phenomenon, there are situations in which the movement of fluids through the pores has significant impact on the mechanical behavior of the system.

Relevance

The study of porous media is paramount importance in the oil exploration industry. This occurs because the mechanical behavior of soils and rocks is one of the important variables involved in the exploitation project of this natural resource.

Computational tool

PORO is a computational tool that allows coupled flow-strain analysis of porous media based on Biot’s Poroelasticity Theory. With it, one can analyze the behavior of porous media studied by determining strains, effective stresses and pore pressures at any instant of time. The system makes use of advanced computing resources in order to obtain results timely.
